Revelation Perth International Film Festival tonight kicks off its twentieth anniversary edition at the Luna Cinema in Leederville The annual screen culture festival opens with a screening of Becoming Bond, a documentary about the life of Australia’s one and only James Bond, George Lazenby.
George himself be attending the opening and after party at Leederville’s The Blue Flamingo.
Festival Director Richard Sowada said Revelation had established itself as an international film festival like no other with its thoughtful and provocative program. “The thing I love the most about this festival is that it is and always has been utterly in the moment,” Richard said. “Working with such immediacy is always challenging but it allows us and our audiences to explore forms and ideas as they’re happening and discover what a film festival can actually be.”
He said this year’s expanded program offers something for everyone with any level of interest in film and film culture, and - just as importantly - entertainment. “Revelation 2017 boasts over 200 film screenings with 41 Australian premieres and 15 World premieres, making it fertile ground for independent filmmakers, distributors and discerning audiences,” Richard said.
Highlights of Revelation 2017 include industry guests and speakers, seminars and exhibitions; Suspended Voices – an audio visual installation at St Georges Cathedral; Mini Rev – free screenings for families at the State Library of WA; Picture Palaces – a celebration of the history of cinema in Western Australia at the Museum of Perth; Screenwest’s annual showcase of emerging WA filmmaking talent in Get Your Shorts On!; the return of the hugely popular Iranian Film Festival; the world premiere of Australia’s first feature film shot in one take Watch The Sunset; and the Revel-8 Super-8 short film festival.
Revelation runs until 19 July.
Revelation is proudly supported by the Australian and Western Australian Governments through Screen Australia and Screenwest, and the City of Vincent as a presentation partner.
The complete program is now online and tickets are on sale from the Revelation website at revelationfilmfest.org and from Luna Palace Cinemas at lunapalace.com.au
