FEFF CAMPUS 2018

Selection of 10 candidates now open!

UDINE– The Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy, is again reaching out across the globe with its Campus programme for young journalists which is set to play a leading role at this year’s much-anticipated 20th edition of Asian cinema’s favourite gathering, set to be staged from April 20th to 28th, 2018.

The candidate selection process is now open, apply online here: bit.ly/FEFFCampus2018.

Ten journalism students aged under 26 - five from Europe and five from Asia - are given the opportunity to learn how a Festival works, how to write about film, how to interview guests and pick up techniques on how to be successful in the media world of today, while experiencing being a part of a writing and editorial team that explores not only traditional media but contemporary social media.

The participants are fully hosted for an active two week programme that includes seminars, interviews and workshops that centre around the art of writing and cinema, and will be guided by a group of professionals led by veteran journalist Mathew Scott.

“Over its three editions the FEFF Campus initiative has helped expand the FEFF family and the reach of the Asian film community from East to West,” said FEFF president Sabrina Baracetti. “We were delighted to see the enthusiasm – and the talent - of our FEFF Campus members as they became part of the festival and – for two weeks – part ofUdine.”

Among the film industry heavyweight who gave up their time to speak and share their insights with last year’s Campus were Hong Kong legends Fruit Chan and Eric Tsang, Hong Kong International Film Festival boss (and long-time FEFF friend) Roger Garcia.

“We consider the young participants the ambassadors of the Far East film Festival and of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, and believe that maintaining strong ties between Asia, Europe and young talent is essential for the future of the international film industry,” said Campus co-ordinator Mathew Scott.

Candidates selected for the first three editions of the Campus have come from China, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Italy, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Serbia, Austria, Poland and Cyprus. They subsequently found employment in the field, working for newspapers and magazines such as Variety, The Financial Times, Time andla Gazzetta dello Sport.

Coverage of FEFF and the Campus was extended through international platforms including Indiewire in the United States, Asia Times in Hong Kong, Eastern Kicks in the United Kingdom and Cinema Today in Japan as well as via platforms such as China’s dominant social media outlet Weibo.

The 4th edition of FEFF Campus can count on solid partnerships with Europa Cinemas, Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club and the Udine Chamber of Commerce.
