ANIMAZE ANNOUNCES FULL PROGRAMMING
ANIMAZE: The Montreal International Animation Film Festival is set to announce its full lineup in advance of the festival on August 18-21. Now in its third year, ANIMAZE is bringing a world of animation to Montreal. With a selection of over 170 short and feature-length animated films at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, an outdoor 360º Dome with planetarium-style projection and a Virtual Reality Cinema, Animaze has an inspiring and dynamic range of content across platforms and mediums.
“Montreal plays a key role in animation history, and we want to capitalize on its bright future by unifying and connecting creative people in animation, video games and new media. The possibilities have never been greater,” said Laurie Gordon, Animaze festival director.
ANIMAZE will also feature an industry conference with appearances from leaders in animation, cinema and technology, among them Nelvana cofounder Clive Smith, Carpe Diem’s Marie-Claude Beauchamp (La Guerre des Tuques), and TELETOON director of content Athena Georgaklis. It will highlight the many Québec innovations in virtual reality, immersive content and storytelling.
In addition to many other Quebec premieres, ANIMAZE will host new episodes of Au pays de têtes à claques, and its new English version Blockheads, airing on Adult Swim Canada in the fall.
The outdoor 360º dome in collaboration is a first in Quebec and offers immersive end-to-end projections with surround sound. Making its Canadian premiere at the Dome is Android Jones’ Samskara. OSM 360º sets visuals to the music of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra directed by Kent Nagano.
The film festival lineup includes films from over 45 countries in a wide range of genres and styles. The International Student Film Contest features entries from students at over nine Quebec animation schools including the Centre NAD, Cégep du Vieux Montréal and UQAM.
In collaboration with Boulevard St-Laurent,ANIMAZE will host two free public outdoor screenings on Friday and Saturday night, featuring a showcase on international student films, a horror section, and a female directors’ focus.
