The Festival will celebrate its thirty-third year presenting the best new films for kids and teens from around the world.
The 2016 Chicago International Children's Film Festival, one of the world's premier festivals of films for kids and teens ages 2-18, returns October 28 to November 6 to celebrate its 33rd year presenting the best new films for Kids from around the world.
The 2016 Festival will feature over 250 films from more than 40 countries, including the US, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Russia, Poland, and many more, screened at venues across Chicago land.
In addition to the films themselves, the Festival enhances the film going experience with post screening Q&As with filmmakers, interactive workshops with special guests, peer-to-peer dialogues, filmmaker-led seminars, and the Chicago International Children's Film Festival's Children's and Youth Juries.
"We're committed to engaging our young movie lovers in the discovery of new stories and cultures through film. The programs and activities throughout the festival encourage their creativity and expand their imaginations," said Festival Programming Director Ann Vikstrom.
The world's best features and short films for children and youth are showcased, including more than 50 shorts programs and exhilarating live-action and animated films covering a myriad of subjects and themes. For 33 years, the Chicago International Children's Film Festival has been recognized as the premier showcase of short film for kids in the world. "We're proud of our film selections and very excited about what this year has to offer, " said Vikstrom. "We feature some imaginative and creative selections along with state-of-the-art, cutting-edge animation."

The shorts and features will compete for jury prizes from both the Adult and Children's Juries, with the coveted prize of Academy Award consideration going to the winners of the Adult Jury Best Animated Shorts and Best Live Action Shorts categories.
As the first Oscar-qualifying children's film festival in the world, the Chicago International Children's Film Festival represents a rare opportunity for Chicagoans to see many of the award-winning films before anyone else. Twenty-five films screened in the last dozen years have earned Oscars or Oscar nominations, including the 2015 Oscar winner Bear Story, and Oscar nominees My Home, Boy in the World, and When Marnie was There.
General Information The 2016 Chicago International Children's Film Festival takes place October 28 through November 6. Venues will be announced at a later date. Prices are Adult $10 and Children (18 and under) $6. Premium Screenings (Opening Night and Party, Closing Night Films, Award Winners, and others) are $15 per person.
