In its third year the Good Dog! International Film Festival returns in 2014 with a new television writing category. The annual festival runs from 4th – 7th September and is held on beautiful Sydney Harbour, nestled in the historic suburb of Balmain. The festival is a unique film festival, requiring all film and written submissions to feature or include a dog. In past years the festival has screened BAFTA and Oscar winning films from all over the world and the judging panel are industry experts.
Submissions for the festival are now open in both the filmmaking and writing categories and close on 30 June 2014. The winners of each category receive a cash prize. While several of the award categories are industry specific, the short story category opens up entries and makes the festival accessible to everyone; children can enter the under 15 category.
Festival Director, Anny Slater, says, “We’re thrilled with the calibre of films and stories that have been submitted in the past, we’re hoping for a repeat of that this year. We wanted to create an event that celebrates the impact dogs can have on people’s lives and I feel we’ve created a festival that is not only for dog lovers and lovers of film but also a wonderful cultural and community event.”
Every year proceeds from the Good Dog! International Film Festival go to Australian and International Charities, last year’s charities were the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home and a Bulgarian animal charity .
