It is the largest annual coproduction market for the international performing arts TV and media industry: Avant Première Music + Media Market Berlin connects around 400 experts in film production, distribution and broadcasting, as well as cultural institutions and performing arts institutions, among them: ARTE, BBC, China International Communication Centre CICC, C Major, EBU, EuroArts, NHK, NRK, Unitel, WNET, ZDF. Being the largest B2B event of its kind, Avant Première contributes to a majority of music and dance TV programming in broadcasting around the globe.
The renowned Avant Première Screenings feature over 500 high-class cultural film productions by 70 international production companies for worldwide coproduction and transmission (12 – 15 Feb). As part of a Virtual Reality Focus in 2017, exclusive partner NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation showcases globally singular technological innovations: a state-of-the-art 8K Ultra High Definition installation with a 3D 22.2 multichannel sound system will transport participants into a new dimension of reality. Virtual Reality Focus: in cooperation with Arte
Avant Première 2017 examines the technological approaches to hyper-realistic experiences for all audiences. This year’s interactive science exposition features brands, products and content presented by Arte, Berliner Festspiele, Brunel University London, Fraunhofer Fokus, Google Germany, Okio Studio among others, promoting professional collaborations between technology and the arts (13 Feb, 15:00 – 18:00).

Soprano Danielle De Niese presents Glyndebourne’s Avant Première Talk to the documentary ‘The birth of an opera’, providing a behind the scenes look on the renowned opera festival. The Chinese International Communication Centre CICC presents ‘Spotlight on China’ as a Talk, introducing the Chinese film, music and media industry and its potential for international collaboration (both 14 Feb).
The Panel ‘Collaboration, Creativity and Community in the Digital World’ invites Peter Maniura, Head of Digital Development at BBC Arts, John Kieser, Executive Vice President and Provost at New World Symphony and Elizabeth Executive at nRapt Elizabeth W. Scott to discuss the challenges posed by the digital world for the performing arts industry. 14 Feb, 15:00 - 16:30.
The ‘EBU-IMZ International Coproduction Panel’ is designed as a case study and lets attendants observe EuroArts Music International’s aim to acquire coproduction partners for their project ‘Soundtrack Europe’, outlining the challenges of international coproduction. The EBU-jury consists of Lothar Mattner, Head of Classical Music & Dance at WDR, Arild Erikstad, Executive Producer at NRK Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation and Matthew Trustram, Senior TV Project Manager at EBU. Special Screenings: Jeroen Verbruggen in person, live act by ‘Il Volo’
‘Ravel by Cherkaoui & Verbruggen’, featuring the Ballet Vlaanderen with choreographies by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is presented by rising choreographer Jeroen Verbruggen in person. Film by EuroArts Music International (12. Feb). A live act by the classical crossover trio presents ‘Il Volo – Notte Magica: A Tribute to the Three Tenors’, a film presented by C Major Entertainment (13 Feb). ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’, the contemporary ballet by Alexander Ekman starring acclaimed pop singer Anna von Hausswolff, presented by BelAir Media (14. Feb).

Cooperation with European Film Market
Apart from mutually reduced entrance tickets for both events, Avant Première and the EFM, the business section of the Berlin International Film Festival, continue their cooperation with jointly presenting the 8K-Special Screening by NHK at the Avant Première premises at Hotel Scandic (13.2.).
Opening: official ceremony and Berlin Live by ARTE
Berlin Live by Arte: the city’s most renowned TV concert and music recording event will be the official kick- off of Avant Première 2017. Participants mingle with professional partners at SchwuZ in Neukölln (11 Feb, 18:00 - 22:00). The official opening ceremony invites for a gala evening including an 8K presentation by NHK and the EuroArts Special Screening ‘Ravel by Cherkaoui & Verbruggen’ in presence of choreographer Jeroen Verbruggen (12 Feb, 17:15 – 18:00).
