On Thursday, June 1, at 21: 00 we will take a walk through Kaisa’s Enchanted Forest (Kuun metsän Kaisa, Finland, 2016, 84' ), a magical documentary by Finnish director Katja Gauriloff. A family chronicle, a chronicle of a friendship, a history of an old continent and ancient legends poetically intertwine in a magical documentary about Sami people, whose way of life and culture were pushed on the path of imminent extinction. The godmothers of the opening film of the new edition of Isola Cinema, istrian vocal group Frčafele, will co-create the magic mood in the House of Culture.
A stone's throw away, at the Isola's Lighthouse, the first set of short films will open the Video on the Beach section. With the sea behind the cinema screen the first set of short films from the section the Video on the Beach will be played – united under the title Beyond the Memory. Video on the Beach is a traditional section of the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema international film festival that has for years countered the gentle sea breezes with edgy shorts by emerging filmmakers of various proveniences.
The film day in Isola will start at 13:00 in Art Kino Odeon with the film by a young director Dane Komljen All the Cities of the North (Svi severni gradovi, Dane Komljen, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2016, 100') telling stories from the other times, about the cities on the North and the South. The afternoon will continue at 17: 00 in Art kino Odeon with the programme of shorts called Memories from the festival Diagonale where we will follow a trail of memories of everyday life that are exposed to an extreme situation. Films will be accompanied on the screen by the Festival Diagonale representative, Marius Hrdy. At 19:00 we will travel along the border to Trieste, Yugoslavia, to the mid- 1950s, when the Piazza Ponterosso in central Trieste became a favourite shopping destination for the citizens of Yugoslavia. The director of the film, Alessio Bozzer will open the journey to the times of coexistence between capitalism and socialism.
For the first time, Isola Cinema will splash to the House of Culture in Cerknica, Filmsko gledališče Idrija and Kinogledališče Tolmin with the film Trieste, Yugoslavia, and at 20:30 to Kosovel Culture House in Sežana with the film Overseas by italian director and this year's guest Loredana Bianconi.
