The Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival announces what is to come for its 17th edition’s NIFFF EXTENDED. Digital creation, audiovisual storytelling and contemporary literature are but some parts of this multidisciplinary brainstorming and networking forum dedicated to the fantasy genre. It will be composed of four main events: EPIC GAME JAM, IMAGING THE FUTURE, STORYWORLDS and NEW WORLDS OF FANTASY. In addition to being a free and complementary extension of the festival, NIFFF EXTENDED will gather together around 50 Swiss and international experts who will share their vision of the genre’s future.

EPIC GAME JAM / 30.06.17 – 02.07.17 / Video game creation
Calling all video game creators – be they beginners or experienced – to the fourth edition of the highly anticipated EPIC GAME JAM! The principles are the same as before insomuch as participants must create a video game under epic and challenging conditions: a restricted timeframe, an unusual environment, a piñata, a mountain of themes to take into account, and many more surprises. In a nutshell, EPIC GAME JAM is a guaranteed epic weekend of limitless creation! More info on www.epicgamejam.com

IMAGING THE FUTURE / 03.07.17 – 04.07.17 / Digital creation and new technologies
This year, IMAGING THE FUTURE will reinforce its leading role as an international hub for new imaging technologies by extending its expertise to Russia, where many blockbusters have benefitted from local VFX talents. Armed with technical skills that are on par with those of Hollywood, Russian films are bursting with visual inventiveness and are setting themselves apart from Western productions. To better understand this phenomenon, IMAGING THE FUTURE will receive Arman Yahin (Director of the Moscow-based Main Road Post), as well as two other internationally recognised Russian VFX supervisors, who will share their experience.

STORYWORLDS / 05.07.17 / Audiovisual storytelling
As new immersive products continuously blur the borders between films and video games, STORYWORLDS will reflect on the impact these emerging technologies have on storytelling. Ted Schilowitz (Futurist for 20th Century Fox) will talk about his work as a consultant for one of the world’s biggest film studios, before extending the discussion to Europe with several experts, including Domenico La Porta (New Media Manager at Wallimage Creative and Director of the R/O institute) and Fabienne Tsai (Associate Researcher at the Spatial Media department of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs).

NEW WORLDS OF FANTASY / 06.07.17 / Contemporary fantasy literature
Furthering its collaboration with the Maison d'Ailleurs, the NIFFF will welcome Beb-deum, a leading artist behind the upcoming “Corps-Concept” exhibition. Well-known for his work in theHeavy Metal magazine, this comic book writer completed numerous books (L'Album, 1987;Burocratika, 1989) before going digital to tackle his observations on miscegenation and globalisation. NEW WORLDS OF FANTASY will offer the possibility to rediscover the works of this artist, greatly influenced by Japanese culture.
