Announcing the GSFF Movie Music Competition
This is the first competition of this kind in Film Festival History. Submit anyoriginal movie music from an independent film and it will be judged by music professionals with awards in multiple categories. Please submit a CD of any original music track (one entry/one track per CD please!) from any of the film categories (please specify what category the film falls under -Documentary, Feature, Animation, etc. – but do NOT send us the actual film! We want the music to stand on its own merit!).
Please mark the outside of the package MUSIC COMPETITION with the WAB Tracking ID. If you have any questions please contact us DIRECTLY at info@gsff.org or 877-908-7050 – do NOT contact Withoutabox Customer Support about this particular category. We are happy to answer any and all of your questions!
**HINT: WAB will kick your entry out unless the title of this project is different than the film if it was entered as well. For instance please change the name of the song to ” Blahdeblah the Music Track” if the film “Blahdeblah” was also entered.
FINAL Deadline is November 15, 2015
***Still confused about this category???
The idea behind this category was, we noticed so many indie films have great music tracks, but the film isn’t always wonderful. Think Dr. Zhivago..and you immediately hear “Laura’s Theme”..but can’t remember anything about the movie but a whole lot of snow.. We are looking for tracks that stand on their own..just like “Laura’s Theme”…not necessarily a series of sound effects if you catch our drift ( no pun intended!!). So if you know of a piece of music like that, we hope you will submit! Winners are announced prior to the festival and are played before and after each screening event.

Myrtle Beach International Film Festival. Ranked one of the top 25 film festivals in the World worth the submission by Movie Maker Magazine. Ranked one of the best by Film International. MBIFF billed as "The East Coast's answer to the Sundance Film Festival" is in the call for entry stage which will end January 1st 2016. The 11th annual MBIFF will take place April 20th - 23rd 2016.
This marks the 11th year for the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival. The MBIFF has continued to grow every year. We are open to all genres, and believe in the independent spirit of film . MBIFF also has a budget category, so a film with a 10 thousand dollar budget does not compete against a project with a 10 million dollar budget (with the exception of the overall winner). Selected by Movie as Maker Magazine one of the top 25 film festivals worth the submission, one of the top festivals in the world by Film International, and touted by many as one of the most important indendepent film festivals in the festival circuit . We are passionate about film and it shows!
We have selected what we feel to be the most diverse panel in the film festival circuit. From professionals to film makers, liberals to conservatives. If a panel member has a problem with the content it will be placed with a panel member that does not find a problem with content. We are looking for projects that have, a vision, a story, and are done with passion.
The MBIFF screens projects in a multi-million dollar theater, housing state of the art technology.
We look forward to viewing your film /project!

For 5 years, we've been bringing in the finest films from around the world. The film festival became a 501(c)3 and launched in 2009 and now screens more then 70 films each year! Hollywood Director Joe Carnahan is our creative director. He has brought us such films as "The Grey" and "The A-Team" with Liam Neeson and now has Bad Boys 3 in pre-production. Most of our previous winners of Best Feature have obtained distribution. Last year's winner BEREAVE just signed a distribution deal and said, " I wish to take a moment to tell you that your hospitality and your wonderful festival helped our film stand out for distribution. Thank you for that and we'll be sending you more of our work in the future.” So join us!
We look forward to having you screen at our 5th year anniversary!

Depth Of Field International Film Festival
March 31, 2016
![]()
Regular Deadline December 7, 2015
Feedback: The one element most festivals ignore.
Instead of paying submission fees and getting nothing in return, EVERYONE who submits to the Depth Of Field International Film Festival competition (DOFIFF.COM) will receive either one of two benefits: Either 1): your film is already competition calibre, and gets accepted/nominated to compete, OR 2): you will receive a letter outlining exactly what it is about your film that is keeping it from being accepted.
First time filmmakers: when have you ever gotten a letter back from a festival giving you the chance to fix something, and resubmit it, for FREE?
Giving you the chance to make corrections to your film does 3 things:
-It gives you to chance to improve your product and make it more marketable.
-It will enhance your chances of winning/being accepted AT OTHER FESTIVALS BESIDES OURS. That's more 'Official Selection' laurels for YOU.
-It will give you forethought for your NEXT filmmaking endeavor, helping you to improve your craft (rejection letters also list the GOOD elements in your film that you should make an effort to keep).
We have 20 genre categories to choose from, including Webisode, LGBT, Dust-Collector (pre-2008), Screenplays, Alternate Media, Art-house Film, TV Shows and Commercials, and many more. Submit to your niche and find out why filmmakers are saying we are the "the best, most helpful film festival" they've ever been associated with.

AFM CONFERENCE SERIES: PITCH CONFERENCE: Quotes from the session outlined below.
Tobin Armbrust, President & Worldwide Production + Acquisition, Virgin Produced
- “I see 200-300 scripts a week. Pitches, I see maybe two. To sell something as a pitch, it depends on where you’re at and what company you’re going to. Some companies will hear pitches every single day - they have relationships with writers that will be pitching all the time. If you’re at an independent, then usually they’re less capitalized, and won’t take as many chances with a pitch. A pitch is a scary thing – it’s a great unknown, because really what I have is your resume - I have a sample. A vast majority of independents are not well capitalized in the area of development – you have to know what people are looking for.”
Cassian Elwes, Independent Producer & Agent
- “The one thing that’s tricky is, studios pretty much make whatever they want - if they see the concept and get the idea and can sell it to the general public then they’ll make it”
Stephanie Palmer, Founder, Good in a Room
- “If you learn only one thing from today, it should be: Lead with genre. In a verbal pitch, genre gives context to the listener. When you are trying to sell something, part of your job is to identify the category your product fits into.”
Ten Tips for Being “Good in a Room”
You’ve worked for months (or years!) on your project, and a buyer is interested. The meeting is set, and there’s a lot at stake. You’re going to get one chance to effectively communicate the value and uniqueness of your project. Many people get nervous at this point.
The best of the best, however, follow these ten tips. If you learn them, you can join the ranks of those who know that they are “good in a room.”
1. Silence is the strongest start of all.
Don’t start talking until the decision-maker is ready.
If there have been a lot of people popping in, urgent phone calls or other interruptions, ask the executive if he or she is ready for you to begin. Make eye contact. Then, start slowly and deliver your first line. Make sure it is dynamite. Pause. Gauge the executive’s response. Then proceed with your presentation at a relaxed pace. Remember, even though you’re intimately familiar with your project, the buyer will be hearing it for the very first time.
2. Understand the buyer’s secret dream.
Even though top-level buyers can seem cold and recalcitrant, this is the result of seeing a seemingly endless stream of poorly prepared and emotionally needy sellers deliver mediocre pitches. Decision-makers don’t wake up thinking, “I can’t wait to disappoint people and pass on 30 projects today.” Instead, they hope today will be the day they discover their career-making project. Thus, you must position yourself and your project in a way that differentiates you from the masses and speaks directly to the buyer’s highest-priority needs.
3. Build rapport. Then, build some more.
People want to work with people they like.
Think about what you have in common with the decision-maker you’re meeting. Be ready to share a few brief, personal stories which demonstrate the attributes you believe will be most attractive to the buyer. Be prepared to ask a few open-ended questions that will encourage the buyer to speak about a non-business interest in a positive light.
All else being equal, you will have the edge if you can establish a personal connection.
4. Make your pitch repeatable.
Though you are selling your project to a decision-maker in the room, after the meeting, the
buyer – if interested – becomes the seller and must pitch your idea to their colleagues or
superiors. In Hollywood, this is known as the “logline.” If you can’t summarize your project in a
brief, compelling statement, you haven’t thought about it enough.
Remember, the more you say, the less people hear. Choose your words carefully.
5. Acknowledge the competition.
Be prepared to answer questions such as, “What does my project have in common with other successful projects in the same industry? What were the last projects that the company purchased, and were they successful? Which of their projects is most similar to my own? What makes me the best person for this project?” Answering these key questions early in your presentation demonstrates that you have done your homework. This will encourage them to listen to what follows more closely.
6. The best meetings are conversational and interactive.
Many professionals make the mistake of performing an over-rehearsed spiel that sounds like an infomercial for their idea. Instead, pause frequently, especially when there is an opportunity for the buyer to give you a reaction or ask a question.
In an ideal world, you’d spend more time in a dialogue with the buyer, than performing a monologue.
7. Start from the beginning – always.
Even if you had a long and productive conversation the day before, you’d be surprised how much can change in the buyer’s mind. After all, you’ve been thinking about the meeting and they have, too. Assume that they’ve done more research, talked to some people and something has changed since the time you last spoke. It’s your job to figure out what that is. After some initial rapport building, do another information-gathering session. If appropriate, ask for a recap from their perspective.
8.Watch for hidden opportunities.
The buyer’s goal for the meeting may not be the same as yours. In addition to hearing your idea, the executive may be evaluating you to see if you would be a good fit for another project. Remember, when you are in the room, you are selling minimally two things: your project and yourself. Even if the meeting doesn’t result in a “yes,” making a favorable impression can be the beginning of a long-term professional relationship.
9. Don’t claim your expertise- demonstrate it.
Don’t just talk about your experience, show your expertise by positioning your project as it
relates to the competition. Don’t brag or boast about past wins. If you must mention a past
success, do it off-handedly and with humility. This is similar to the common rule about
storytelling, “Show, don’t tell.” Remember a lot of people talk the talk.
Those who are “good in a room” are focused on meeting the needs of the buyer and not on boosting their own ego.
10. Save a surprise for the end.
Plan multiple strategies to exit gracefully. Some techniques are to have a callback to a personal topic that you discussed at the beginning of the meeting, thank them for a specific, useful contribution they made during the meeting, or leave them a polished piece of material that they haven’t seen previously. Use a summary statement that you design specifically to be remembered and repeated.
Remember, last impressions last.
Surprise!
Bonus tip.
11. You are always in the room.
Develop your skills so that you can handle meetings that occur unexpectedly, like on a plane, at a party, or in a waiting room. More business starts from casual interactions than formal meetings across a conference room table.
The polished professional who is “good in a room” is ready for anything. But don’t feel the need to talk business in all situations, often the best move is to say, “Why don’t we just enjoy the party, and I’ll follow up with you on Monday.”

AFM CONFERENCE SERIES: FILM FESTIVAL CONFERENCE: Quotes from the session outlined below.
Navigating the Festival Circuit:

- “Getting your film to any one of these festivals can really help to separate your film from so many and put it on the map. It’s helpful in the positioning of the film, to get reviews in the trades and online it helps give that film a profile in the market place to help with the sales and distribution process.”

- “Some festivals aren’t right for all films. The top festivals aren’t necessarily relevant to any given films – and they can be very expensive. Some filmmakers don’t realise this, and if the festival isn’t quite right it can end up damaging their campaign.”
Creating a Successful Festival Strategy:
Glen Basner, FilmNation Entertainment participates in a panel discussion at the American Film Market (AFM) conferences held at the Fairmont Hotel on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in Santa Monica, Calif. (Photo Richard Shotwell/Invision for IFTA/AP Images)
- “This year with “Room”, we had already sold the movie around the world – there weren’t many territories left so we didn’t need to rush to find a festival. We devised a festival strategy that worked, which included Telluride and Toronto. It’s about what is the best way to get the film in to the right theatres and get audiences compelled to go to that film. It’s all geared around theatrical distribution at that point”
Gary Michael Walters, Producer “Whiplash”, “Nightcrawler” participates in a panel discussion at the American Film Market (AFM) conferences held at the Fairmont Hotel on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in Santa Monica, Calif. (Photo Richard Shotwell/Invision for IFTA/AP Images)
- “Ultimately everything we do is a function of mind share – how do we get people’s attention when we don’t have Ryan Gosling in our movie? I encourage people to get as much experience help early on in the process. Having the guidance of those that understand the market place is invaluable. You either play the inside game(the buyers), or the outside game (the 8 billion people in this world).”
AFM ROUNDTABLES: Quotes from the session outlined below.
Distributing and Monetizing Documentaries:
Richard Abramowitz, President, Abramorama participates in a panel discussion at the American Film Market (AFM) conferences held at the Fairmont Hotel on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in Santa Monica, Calif. (Photo Richard Shotwell/Invision for IFTA/AP Images)

- 'Documentaries have to work around the world. When I'm picking a Janice Joplin movie, a Steve McQueen movie, I know they can be used everywhere'
- 'I think there is a trend now for documentaries - it's come back. We have more now than we did 5 years ago'.

***Panavision’s donation of 3 (three) camera packages (rental value of approximately $7,500 each) will be awarded to filmmakers for future projects in production in the US. All packages include lenses and accessories, though substitutions may be made and are based on availability. Anamorphic lenses are not available. Equipment insurance is required. The camera package must be redeemed within 24 months of date of the award.
Rules & Terms
Please be sure to read the submission guidelines before you mail and/or attach a link to the entry. We will try to accommodate people as much as possible. Depending on the number and date of submissions we may have limited time and resources to figure out application mistakes. Please try and be as accurate as possible.
Submissions online are best but if you send a DVD all films must be submitted in DVD/NTSC 0 or 1 formats to be included in the film festival. If your film is selected we will be screening all films from hard drives. Final file details will be posted here soon. But an .mov and .mpg always work.
If your submission is selected, we will notify you approximately March 31, 2016 by email. Often when we send our first email to people our emails can go to spam. Around March 15 please start to check you spam folder before deleting everything!!! If your film is selected to be in the festival, you will be given free admission to the festival. All filmmakers may also choose to be part of one of our panels. (We cannot help with any transportation, food or housing costs. We are a small indie festival!) If you are coming to the festival and want to be a part of a panel during the festivities we need to know by April 15, 2016 so we can make arrangements such as number and size of panels, etc. It will depend on the number of people coming to the festival; both fans and artists.
GENERAL RULES
We hope everyone has fun and enjoys themselves at the festival. but a few suggestions...
Please submit as soon as possible. The process goes a lot smoother if we are not sent a lot of films at the last minute. THANKS!
We strongly encourage all applicants to use online submissions. DVDs do not get lost that way and it is much easier to share the video. FilmFreeWay online secure video is fine but so is a password protected vimeo/youtube link. If you must send DVDs, we are strongly encouraging entrants submitting hard-copies to submit films in a paper DVD sleeve. When packaging, protect the DVD in a padded envelope, or similar package. Please DO NOT send your dvd in a slim, jewel, or standard DVD case.
Please note that the ONLY difference in the early submission deadline versus the final submission deadline is the fee discount. The submission process and consideration by the Programming Committee is not affected by the date you submit your film as long as it is postmarked by our final deadline - your chances are equal regardless of the day your film makes it into our offices, as long as it is postmarked by the final deadline!
ALL films submitted to the festival are seen and scored by multiple judges. All films that have a high rating average, or are a favorite of a programmer, go on to final deliberations. NYCIFF selects its films by majority vote.
Film Submissions are non-returnable for any reason.
If a film is accepted, entrants will be solely responsible for delivering their promotional materials to and from the festival venue. Complete press kits will be needed as soon after notification as possible. NYCIFF cannot be held liable for your exhibition print/video materials which are lost or damaged.
In 2016 the awards will be juried. The jury will submit their ratings to a third party who will track and calculate the results. The results will be held by the third party until the evening of the awards where the results will be announced. The process for calculating the winners are;
1 - The films/videos are shown to the judges.
2 - The judges mark the ballots rating the films and other appropriate categories from 1 to 10, 10 being the best.
3 - All the scores are totaled and then divided by the number of ballots.
4 - Highest score wins.
5 - The decision of the festival is final.
Please note festival dates are subject to change.
Unfortunately, NYCIFF does not provide room, board or travel for filmmakers.

We are looking for all genres of narratives from comedy to drama and from thrillers to love stories.

Why We Did This and What’s Next:
Filmmakers deserve real options outside traditional distribution systems. Options to build an audience and financial rewards that are independent of a jury’s whims or mass views for ad dollars.
Our team is based in NYC. We love independent artists and films, and we are building a better way for their work to find an audience and the financial rewards that come with it. That way, more great work has a chance to be seen and enjoyed. More great work will be produced.
The online film festival is our next step toward becoming a vibrant
community for people to share what they’re watching, listening to and more. Creators gain bigger exposure and financial rewards for their work. Users instantly discover videos they love from around the world.
We have a simple content license. You give us the right to show your work worldwide in Wiper. There is no exclusivity – post it anywhere else you like, and remove it from Wiper anytime.
Submit to Maryland International Film Festival Hagerstown 2016
Welcome filmmakers to the Maryland International Film Festival-Hagerstown. We are excited about our 5th year coming up in April 1-3, 2016. He also directs some of the hottest television shows like "The Blacklist." He has been a powerful partner in our festival!
The festival is conveniently located downtown, we're in the middle of the arts and entertainment district. And after the films we host some of the best after parties with live bands and fantastic food and drinks!
